Diablo II is a hack-and-slash dark fantasy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment in 2000. It is the second installment in the Diablo series, continuing the events of Diablo (1996). The world of Sanctuary is invaded by demons that are countered by a player-controlled character.
As with its predecessor, Diablo II contains simple, engaging gameplay. The player can slay crowds of enemies, get a performance boost and various new equipment for the character.
At the beginning of the game, the player can choose between several character classes, each of which differs in their set of skills, initial characteristics (Strength, Dexterity, Stamina and Energy) and available weapons and armor. The main plot of the game is the destruction of the main boss — Diablo. After defeating the forces of evil, the player gets access to a higher level of difficulty.
There are five character classes in the original Diablo II to choose from: Amazon, Necromancer, Barbarian, Sorcerer and Paladin. The Diablo II: Lord of Destruction expansion adds two more classes: Assassin and Druid.
In order to finish the game, you need to complete four acts succesfully. Each Act starts in a new city, where the protagonist receives information about the tasks and completes various quests, leading to the completion of the Act.
At the beginning of 2021, a remaster of the game called Diablo II: Resurrected was announced. It is an updated, technically more advanced version, including content from the original game and the Lord of Destruction add-on.
